Former Ethiopian international Getaneh Kebede has joined Hawassa Ketema on a free transfer. The veteran striker is reunited with his former national teammate Shemeles Bekele at the Lakers.
Hawassa Ketema are actively recruiting for the upcoming Ethiopian Premier League season. The southern Ethiopian side lost top goal poacher Ali Sulieman at the end of the 2024/25 season and were on the lookout for a new striker. Kebede turned out for Fasil Kenema last season and bagged 13 goals in the league. The proven goal scorer previously played for Debub Police, Dedebit, Saint George, and Wolkite Ketema in the top flight.
After impressing with the Ethiopian national side in 2013, Kebede signed for South African side Bidvest Wits and spent a season on loan at the University of Pretoria. Kebede’s move to Hawassa coincided with the homecoming of Bekele. The pair enjoyed some successful moments with the Waliyas between 2012 and 2014.
Hawassa Ketema named former youth side trainer Temesgen Dana as their new head coach, replacing Mulugeta Miherete, who moved to Mechal. Dana managed Ethiopia as an assistant coach just a month ago.
