Africans abroad: Veteran Algeria midfielder Nabil Bentaleb powers Lille to important win

African stars were in action over the weekend with a number of them going on the scorer’s sheet for their various clubs in the major European leagues.

Notable among the scorers is Cameroon international, Etta Eyong who netted one of the goals as Levante relinquished a two goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Real Betis.

Ivan Romero shot Levante ahead in the second minute before Eyong doubled their lead eight minutes later. Levante however gave away the lead when Real Betis scored twice in the 45th and the 80th minute through Cucho Hernandez and Pablo Fornals.

In the German Bundesliga, St Pauli defeated Augsburg by 2-1 with Benin striker, Andreas Hountondji leveling for St. Pauli before Luxembourg forward, Danel Sinani scored their winner at the 77th minute mark.

Konan N’Dri scores consolation

The Italian Serie A was not left out of the picture as Ivory Coast forward, Konan N’Dri scored a consolation in Lecce’s 4-1 loss at Atalanta.

In the French Ligue 1, two Africans found the net as Lille defeated ten-man Toulouse by 2-1. Cameroon forward Frank Magri opened the floodgates for Toulouse but Lille fought late to score twice through veteran Algerian midfielder Nabil Bentaleb and Ethan Mbappe to secure three home points.

Ivory Coast midfielder, Jean-Philippe Gbamin shot Metz ahead with just 14 minutes played but Algeria midfielder, Himad Abdelli leveled for Angers from the spot in added time to settle the game at 1-1 in full time.
