Amin Chiakha scores first goal for Vejle in Superliga draw

19-year-old Algeria international forward Amin Chiakha scored his first club for Vejle Boldklub on Monday in a 1-1 draw at FC Fredericia in Danish Superliga action.

A towering and powerful “#9” striker, Chiakha is an intriguing prospect and his second half strike on Monday showed why he has been called into the Algeria senior national team. Receiving a pass in the penalty area from Thomas Gundelund Nielsen in the 64th minute, Chiakha held off a defender with his back to goal before firing in a low finish to put the visitors ahead.

An equalizer arrvied within ten minutes for hosts Fredericia but a point away from home will be valuable for Vejle, who currently sit in last place on the 12-team table with only five points from eight matches.

Chiakha, on loan from Superliga champions FC Copenhagen, struggled to make an impact in his first four matches. However, after scoring twice in a cup victory over minnows Skanderborg, the Copenhagen-born forward now has his first league strike since joining on loan.

After rising through FC Copenhagen’s academy to debut last season, Chiakha scored 7 goals in 29 appearances for Copenhagen in all competitions during the 2024-25 season incluidng 4 goals in 9 UEFA Conference League games.

Previously a Danish youth international up to the U-19 level, Chiakha debuted for the Algeria senior team in a November 2024 match against Equatorial Guinea during 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. Most recently, Chiakha came off the bench again in March during Algeria’s 5-1 2026 World Cup qualifying victory over Mozambique.

Chiakha and Vejle will look to continue improving their form next Sunday when Vejle host Sønderjyske on September 21.
