Tanzania: Young Africans continue dominance with Community Shield victory

Dar es Salaam’s Kariakoo Derby once again ended with a victory for Young Africans after they overcame Simba SC with a 1-0 victory in Tanzania’s Community Shield on Tuesday.

Ivorian superstar midfielder Pacôme Zouzoua produced another trophy-winning moment for Yanga by finishing from close range for the only goal of the match in the 56th minute. The reigning league and cup champions snatched the lead after a hectic sequence that saw Maxi Nzengeli’s shot saved by Simba goalkeeper Moussa Camara right into the path of Zouzoua, who was left with a simple finish into the unguarded net.

It is yet another devastating result for Simba, who have now lost six consecutive matches to their eternal rivals while Yanga continue to dominate all domestic competitions.

The Citizens were well in control against Simba, who did manage to stay in the match due to a strong defensive performance. While the Simba attack was rather ineffective, a positive for the 2024-25 CAF Confederation Cup finalists was a strong debut from South African central defender Rushine de Reuck.

However, it is yet another trophy for Yanga in the end who successfully defended their Community Shield title from last season.

Yanga and Simba will now both turn their attention to the CAF Champions League. Young Africans have a potentially tricky clash against Angola’s Wiliete SC. The first leg will take place on Friday in Luanda.

Simba are set to travel to Botswana for the first leg of their qualifying stage clash against Gaborone United, which will take place on Saturday.
