Champions League: Hakimi and PSG dominate Atalanta

PSG were in full flight on Wednesday with star fullback Achraf Hakimi contributing an assist in the Parisian giants’ 4-0 UEFA Champions League domination of Atalanta.

It is easy to achieve an assist when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is on your team! Hakimi passed to the Georgian superstar and the winger did the rest, embarking on a dazzling run from the right wing towards the edge of the Atalanta penalty area before firing past goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.

A Champions League beatdown

Carnesecchi did well to prevent his team from a more embarrassing result. PSG laid siege to the goal of the Italian club and a thrashing was easy to predict when Marquinhos opened the scoring inside three minutes. Kvaratskhelia doubled the lead in the 39th minute and Carnesecchi prevented a third when he saved Bradley Barcola’s penalty kick just before halftime.

Nuno Mendes made it 3-0 early in the second half before Gonçalo Ramos added one more goal in second half stoppage time.

Hakimi’s 2025-26 season so far with PSG

Surprisingly, Wednesday marked Hakimi’s first goal contribution since an assist against Real Madrid during this past summer’s FIFA Club World Cup. He has made six appearances this season for PSG, whose record remains perfect in France’s Ligue 1 through four rounds. PSG next face a difficult trip away from home on Sunday against rivals Olympique Marseille in Le Classique.
