Simy Nwankwo scores on Al Orobah debut

Nigerian striker Simy Nwankwo began life at new club Al Orobah by scoring on his debut to help secure a 2-1 victory over Al-Tai in their Saudi First Division match on Wednesday.

The forward announced his arrival in style, demonstrating the goal-scoring prowess that made him a standout in Italy’s Serie A and Serie B.

Al-Orobah wasted no time to go ahead just five minutes as Darwin Gonzalez gave them the lead through a powerful strike that found the back of the net.

Nwankwo’s impact was immediate and decisive after joining the club in a bid to help them secure promotion to the Saudi Professional League. The 33-year-old wasted no time in justifying the faith placed in him by the Al-Orobah management, with a 44th minute strike as he went round the goalkeeper to slot the ball home.

With the second half in action, Al Tai narrowed the lead just seven minutes into the half with a thunder bolt free kick from Mohammed Al-Siyari.

The victory at Al-Jouf University Stadium marks a crucial turnaround for Al Orobah, who had suffered a 1-0 defeat in their opening league match of the season against Al Bukiryah.

The Nigerian international’s debut goal is a strong signal of his intent and suggests he will be a pivotal player in Al-Orobah’s quest for a successful campaign.

The win gives Al-Orobah their first three points of the season, lifting them from the bottom half of the table to seventh.

Al-Orobah will now look to build on this momentum when they face Al-Qadsiah in the King’s Cup on September 24, followed by another league match against Abha on September 28.
