Zimbabwe’s Simba Bhora FC have received a huge financial injection ahead of their CAF Champions League assignment scheduled for Botswana on Sunday.
The Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions have received a $100,00 donation from rivals Scottland FC president Scott Sakupwanya.
Scottland’s owner’s gesture is interesting considering that they are rivals to Bhora.
Scottland lie in second place in the standings, two points behind Joel Luphahla-led pacesetters. Interestingly, Sakupwanya’s company called Better Brands reportedly sponsors Bhora.
Reports in Zimbabwe indicate that Sakupwanya has also pledged to pay winning bonuses for Simba players if they sail past Hotspurs and proceed to the next round.
The defending champions need the money the most to cover their costs to be incurred as they travel to Francistown to meet their Eswatini Premier League counterparts Nsingizini Hotspurs.
The Zimbabweans are hosting their matches in the neighbouring country as they do not have a certified match venue.
Therefore, the Champions League preliminary round, first-leg match will take place at Obed Itani Stadium on Saturday.
On Saturday, the venue will host Botswana’s Gaborone United’s Champions League match against Simba SC of Tanzania then Young Africa FC’s game against Royal Leopards of Eswatini in a double-header.
