Lafitte highlights Gallants’ areas of improvement after holding Sundowns

Marumo Gallants FC coach Alexandre Lafitte has highlighted his team’s areas of improvement. The Frenchman said this after forcing a 1-1 draw with fellow South Africa’s top-flight league counterparts Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.

The two Betway Premiership teams met at Dr Molemela Stadium where Iqraam Rayners put Miguel Cardoso’s team ahead in the 28th minute.

Seven minutes later, the hosts responded to level matters through Sundowns’ own goal after Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo’s 35th minute strike.

Reacting to the point gained, Lafitte felt his team showed improvements against Sundowns although the hosts could have done better.

“It is a good result; one point, I think we had a good game. Sometimes when we had the ball, we were dangerous,” the coach told SuperSport Television in a post-match interview.

“Normally, we missed. We should have scored two or three goals. In football, if you concede a goal, it is difficult to win a game. When we didn’t have the ball, we had a good mentality and good attitude.”

Lafitte reveals where team needs to improve

Lafitte then explained where his team needs to work on heading into the next Betway Premiership assignment against Orbit College FC this weekend.

“The most important thing is the collective. When we have the ball and when we do not have the ball, we have different possibilities to defend and attack,” the 28-year-old said.

“We will improve in each game. The most important thing is that we should stop conceding goals and increase the goals we score.”

The Frenchman also hinted on signing a top striker to add firepower to the team’s attack
