Kwasi Sibo stress the need for hard work to command regular Ghana shirt

Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo has admitted that he needs to work hard to command a regular shirt in the senior team.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a fruitful senior debut when Ghana managed to squeeze a 1-0 win over Mali in match day 8 of the 2026 FIFA World qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Real Oviedo midfielder was a last minute replacement for Elisha Owusu who was suspended for the Mali encounter and he quickly made his presence felt.

Sibo, who cut his teeth with Ghana lower tier side, Cheetah FC, spoke to Graphic.com.gh.

“Getting a starting role in such a crucial match means the coach has confidence in me, but I have to work even harder to fight for a place in the team.

“If I don’t get regular playing time at Oviedo, I’ll not catch the eye of the coach. So my focus is to keep working hard, for my club and for Ghana,” he addded.

Sibo previously played for Watford

Sibo has previously played for Watford before loan spells at Skanderbeu and Ibiza. He has featured for Betis B and Amorebieta in the past before moving to Real Oviedo in 2024.

The Black Stars’ quest to reach their fifth World Cup is very much on course as they lead Group I with 19 points, three better than Comoros after eight qualifying matches.

The four time African champions’ next fixtures are against Central African Republic and Comoros in the final round of qualifying matches scheduled for October.
