Ex-SuperSport United star Atusaye Nyondo seals Zimbabwe move

Former SuperSport United striker Atusaye Nyondo has secured a move to Zimbabwe giants Highlanders FC, the eighth Malawian lured by the country’s dollar this season alone.

The former Flames forward has joined the Bulawayo-based club as a free agent after parting ways with South Africa’s Motsepe Foundation Championship team, Casric Stars FC earlier this year.

Highlanders unveiled the 2011 South Africa’s National First Division Golden Boot Award winner (16 goals) alongside midfielder Martin Mhubu.

Famously called Bosso, the Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League team announced the arrival of the 34-year-old Malawian ahead of the Chibuku Cup quarter final date with Scottland FC on Sunday. Nyondo is expected to feature in the high-profile game scheduled for Barbourfields Stadium in Harare.

Nyondo was part of 2010 Africa Cup of Nations squad

The former Flames striker, who was part of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations squad, has been in and out of Malawi since he first left Lilongwe to sign for second-tier league outfit Carara Kicks, now defunct, in 2009. Earlier, he had a stint at Jomo Cosmos.

Nyondo’s Golden Boot accolade earned him a dream transfer to South Africa’s PSL giants SuperSport in the 2012 season.

The former Silver Strikers FC forward left SuperSport after a few seasons to join Bloemfontein Celtic. This was followed by spells with the University of Pretoria, Pretoria Callies, Ethiopian top team Saint George then back home at Strikers again.

Nyondo has enough company in Zimbabwe of compatriots Gomezgani Chirwa (Ngezi Platinum FC), William Thole (Simba Bhora), Khuda Muyaba (Scottland FC), Nickson Nyasulu, Vincent Nyangulu, Precious Phiri (FC Platinum) and Manica Diamonds’ Mark Fodya.

The TNM Super League export has reunited with Dutch coach Pitier De Jong after having worked together at Strikers two seasons ago.
