Nigeria winger Ademola Lookman returned to action for Atalanta for the first time this season as they secured a commanding 3-0 Serie A victory against Torino at Olympic Grande Torino Stadium on Sunday.
Heading into the fourth fixture of the new campaign, the Super Eagle winger had not started in any match having fallen out with coach Ivan Juric during the summer.
He missed the opening three league matches casting doubt over his future at the club. However, against Torino, Lookman was introduced in the 87th minute to test the emphatic win against Torino, which was Atalanta’s second of the campaign.
“Lookman? That’s a closed issue,” Juric told Tuttosport after the game. “The group is solid. He spoke with me and the team on Monday. He has a great winning mentality: now we need to get him back physically fit.”
He last scored in the league in the 3-2 defeat against Napoli on January 18, netting in the 55th minute. Lookman played 31 Serie A games last season for Atalanta, scored 11 goals and provided seven assists.
Lookman, who linked up with Atalanta in August 2022 from RB Leipzig, for whom he made 11 league appearances in total, will now hope to get involved from the start when Atalanta travel to face Juventus at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.
