Habib Diarra ruled out for Sunderland after undergoing surgery

Sunderland have confirmed they will have to make do without Senegal midfielder Habib Diarra until December after he started rehabilitation from a surgery.

A statement from the Black Cats confirmed: “Sunderland AFC midfielder Habib Diarra underwent successful surgery on Monday.

“After sustaining a groin injury in training ahead of the Club’s Premier League fixture versus Aston Villa, the 21-year-old will now begin a period of rehabilitation at the Academy of Light.”

Diarra joined the Black Cats from Strasbourg

The statement added: “Diarra, who moved to Wearside from RC Strasbourg in July, is scheduled to return to action in December. Wishing you well in your recovery, Habib!”

Diarra joined the Black Cats from Strasbourg at the start of the season and featured in the club’s first four league games of the new season, alongside two appearances for Senegal.

After joining the club, he was looking to get started by saying: “I am really excited to be here. I can’t wait to get out onto the pitch and play in this stadium. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier.

“It is a family club which really fits and suits me perfectly. And I believe to move on in my career this is really the best move for me. I am proud to be able to represent Sunderland and will give everything I have for this club.”

The midfielder was the second signing of the summer following in the footsteps of Enzo Le Fée in making his move permanent. Since then, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava and Chemsdine Talbi have all made the switch to Wearside.
