Ghana international defender Tariq Lamptey has been put under a rehabilitation programme following a surgery to repair his knee.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion star suffered a serious injury just two games into his Fiorentina career. Having made his debut for the Serie A side in a 3-1 defeat to Napoli, he only lasted just 22 minutes in his first start for the club in a 2-1 home loss to Como.
A statement from Como confirmed: “The surgery revealed an isolated tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. However, the nature of the injury meant that anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery was required, which was a complete success.
“The player will return to Florence in the next few hours to begin his planned rehabilitation program.”
His injury comes at a time when Ghana is fighting to seal their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars are currently topping Group I on 19 points, having won six matches, drawn one and lost one.
Madagascar are sitting second with 16 points while Comoros are third in 15 points. The injury means Tariq Lamptey is likely set to miss upcoming qualifiers where Ghana will face Central African Republic and Comoros in October.
