CAFCL: Power Dynamos coach spots Asec Mimosas frailty

Power Dynamos FC coach Oswald Mutapa has identified ASEC Mimosas’ frailty that his Zambian champions want to exploit in Ivory Coast on Sunday.

The seasoned Zambian coach analysed the Ivorian’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of their CAF Champions League preliminary round match.

The former Zambia under-20 tactician said he wants his wards to make the most of the Ivorians’ shortcomings and turn them into his club’s advantage.

“We are going into the second half and we are leading by a goal to zero,” he said. “We can score and we can defend—this is football. We just have to go out there and get a positive result which will take us to the next stage.”

ASEC Mimosas biggest weakness

The MTN Super League holders left for Abidjan carrying a slim and delicate 1-0 lead from the first leg played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola last weekend.

Mutapa told his Ndola-based club’s media that he had done enough homework on Mimosas going into the match at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny.

“It is a good side going forward but also they are vulnerable at the back. This is not the way they play. Hopefully, we can capitalize on their weaknesses. Let us get a result that will take us to the next stage,” the coach added.

How Dynamos/Mimosas can sail through

Dynamos travelled to Ivory Coast with one foot into the next round, thanks to Innocent Kashita. His seventh-minute goal was all the MTN Super League defending champions needed to overcome the fancied opponents last weekend.

That goal settled the first leg contest, but there is no doubt that Mimosa coach Julien Chevalier believes the tie remains very much alive going into the second leg.

The Zambians can advance to the next round with any draw in Abidjan while Mimosas need a two-margin win to overturn the tables. Mimosas have won four of their five consecutive home games this season with the other result being a loss.
