Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho claims he is enjoying life at Celtic and hopes for more goals in the Jersey as he helped the Scottish side secure a 1-1 away draw against Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday.
Iheanacho, who started the game from the substitute bench, came on in the second half to break the deadlock in the 55th minute at the Rajko Mitic Stadium.
The Nigerian met a pass from Benjamin Nygren, and slotted calmly into the far corner,
However the lead was not held for long as just 10 minutes later the Marko Arnautović leveled the score line for the home side.
Speaking after the game in a post match interview with TNT sports, the 28 year old said they were happy to go back home with a point from the encounter.
“It felt good, to be fair. I’m happy to play for this great team, Celtic. I’m happy to play my first European game with them. It was a good outing and we played a strong side and we got points from it.”
Reacting to the demands that comes with playing with the Scottish giants, the Iheanacho confirmed his readiness to give his all for the club.
“Obviously, when I was coming in here, I know it’s massive, massive pressure playing in Celtic. But I was ready for it, so I’m ready for it, ready to go. Hopefully we get more results coming up.”
The former Leicester City player also affirmed that the decision to join Celtic was a good one as he is enjoying life at his new club. “To be fair, obviously, I’ve been in touch with the gaffer for a while, but it was a good decision with my team to come to Celtic.
So obviously, as you can see, I’m enjoying it in Celtic and hopefully there’s more to come and more goals to come and more performances to come.”
Iheanacho joined Celtic from Spanish side Sevilla as a free agent in the summer transfer window and has enjoyed a bright start to life in Scotland. He has scored 2 goals and provided 1 assist in 3 games for the Scottish Premier League champions.
