Ligi Kuu Bara: Winning start to league campaign for Simba SC

Simba SC joined their fellow Ligi Kuu Bara Tanzania contenders by beginning the 2025-26 campaign with a victory on Thursday.

Jonathan Sowah scored on his league debut for the Reds who seized control of the match after an energetic opening five minutes from visitors Fountain Gate at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium. Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rushine de Reuck headed the hosts ahead in the 6th minute from a Jean Charles Ahoua corner kick.

Ahoua then got on the scoresheet himself with a finish off the post after Yusuph Kagoma was allowed too much space on the end line and crossed for the Ivorian to finish first-time. It was a routine victory for last season’s CAF Confederation Cup finalists, who are eager to get off to a good start as they attempt to mount a challenge to rivals and defending champions Young Africans.

Simba will next look to finish off qualification to the final round of qualifying for the CAF Champions League. They will host Botswana’s Gaborone United, who they defeated away from home by a 1-0 score in the first leg.
