U-20 Women’s World Cup (Q): Moses Aduku declares Nigeria intent to take fight to Rwanda

Nigeria U-20 women’s national team coach Moses Aduku has assured the Falconets will go all out to finish the job and advance in their 2026 U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying second round clash against Rwanda.

The Falconets will trade tackles on Saturday at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan against Rwanda after securing a hard fought 1-0 victory in the first leg qualifying match in Kigali on Sunday.

Speaking in a pre-match conference on Friday, Aduku admitted that the job was not done as his side intent was to finish the job in Kigali.

“I want to thank God for the victory in Kigali. You know, it was not easy, but our plans did not materialise. We wanted to get the job done in Kigali and make Ibadan a formality. But you know, sometimes football denies you what you want to do. But it’s the same. I think we’re on course.”

The former Nigeria youth international added that the two-time World Cup silver medallists have been working on making sure they utilize every chance they get as they want to take the fight to the visitors.

“One of the things that we missed doing in Kigali, we want to do it in Ibadan tomorrow. And that is scoring of goals. My girls lost some scoring chances that will have wrapped up the game. So we’ve put our house together, worked on it, and tomorrow we are waiting for the time.”

“This is a home game and we need to take the game to them because relying on one goal is not enough. So, we want to see how we can score early. So, we are going all out to push them back so that we can conclude the game.”

Meanwhile, Falconets captain Joy Igbokwe confirmed the readiness of the young Nigerian side to appear in the next World Cup.

“We have been putting our heads together, encouraging one another that we have to make Nigerians proud and make our families proud. So, by the special grace of God, we are going to qualify and get the ticket for the World Cup in Poland.”

The Falconets are one of the only teams to have never missed a FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since the inaugural edition in 2002.
