Pan-Africa Football can exclusively confirm that Singida Black Stars head coach Miguel Gamondi is inching closer to taking over at Tanzania Mainland Premier League giants Simba SC.
Following the abrupt exit of South African coach Fadlu Davids to take charge at Moroccan side Raja Casablanca, Simba remained without a coach. The Msimbazi Reds opted to hire the services of Tanzania national team coach Hemed Suleiman for the CAF Champions League return leg assignment against Gaborone United.
Simba are now in the final stages of agreeing a deal to take the Argentine coach, who previously handled their rivals Young Africana (Yanga SC).
“We are in the final stages to agree a deal for Miguel (Gamondi), it is just a few days away before he becomes a Simba coach,” a source from the club, who did not want to be named, told Pan-Africa Football.
This website further understands that Gamondi is scheduled to hold a press conference on Monday, and he could likely use the opportunity to bid farewell to Singida. Gamondi was in charge of Singida helping them to reach the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
They qualified on a 3-1 aggregate win against Rayon Sports of Rwanda. After winning the first leg 1-0 away, Singida returned home to finish the job with a 2-1 win at Chamazi Stadium.
Gamondi recently helped Singida to secure their first-ever CECAFA Kagame Cup trophy after defeating Al Hilal of Sudan 2-1 in the final. While at Yanga, Gamondi managed 40 league matches, won 34, drew two games and suffered four defeats.
He led the club to unprecedented success in recent years, including breaking a 25-year drought by reaching the CAF Champions League group stage and advancing to the quarterfinals.
Gamondi further guided them to the Premier League title, the Federation Cup, and the Community Shield, while also delivering unforgettable victories against both domestic and continental rivals.
