Furious Matano blames goalkeeper Bonphas Munyasa for KCB defeat

Kenyan Premier League side KCB coach Robert Matano has blamed the team’s first choice goalkeeper Bonphas Munyasa for their first defeat of the season in the FKF Premier League against Mathare United.

Having kicked off the season with a resounding 2-0 win against Tusker FC, the Bankers’ aim to keep the momentum was halted by the ‘Slum Boys’, who recovered from their opening defeat to win the game at Kasarani Annex.

‘You cannot blame anyone else but the goalkeeper’

“We gave out a goal and created chances, but were unable to utilise them. That is all,” Matano told Azam TV as quoted by Mozzart Sport. “It is a big mistake because a person of his caliber, height and experience should not concede such a goal. There was no pressure; no one pushed him and no one was near him.

“It was a ball that he ought to have made an easy catch or return to play. It is his mistake and not of the team. You cannot blame anyone else but the goalkeeper.”

He concluded: “We have accepted defeat, retreat and organise ourselves for the next match. However, this might be our last loss because we cannot accept losing again in such a manner. We lost because of our own mistakes.”

KCB will return to action with a fixture against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday.
