Kaizer Chiefs switch attention to AmaZulu clash

After accomplishing their CAF Confederation Cup mission over the weekend, Kaizer Chiefs have now switched their focus to domestic assignments.

AmaKhosi booked their place in the next stage of the continental cup after seeing off Kabuscorp SCP. The South African giants needed to dig deep to brush aside the Angolans. The visitors had arrived in Johannesburg hoping to hold on to their 1-0 lead from the first leg.

However, Chiefs won the preliminary round second leg match 1-0 courtesy of Glody Lilepo’s goal to bring the contest into post-match penalties. The Soweto giants prevailed 5-4 in the penalties to qualify to the next round.

Now, Nasreddine Nabi’s side says their focus is on the Betway Premiership fixture against AmaZulu at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

What do Kaizer Chiefs think of AmaZulu FC?

The Glamour boys have since acknowledged that AmaZulu, coached by Chiefs legend Arthur Zwane, are unpredictable opponents.

Usuthu have improved this season after winning thrice, drawing twice and losing twice. Zwane’s men sit in ninth place on the Betway Premiership table with 11 points.

AmaZulu are two steps behind Chiefs who have tasted defeat once while registering four wins and two draws to take their tally to 14 points.

Therefore, Chiefs say they will take on the opponents from Durban while “aiming for maximum points to stay within reach of the leading pack, who have played more league matches than Amakhosi.”

Nabi remains unavailable for the Soweto giants amid reports that he is on his way out. His right-hand man Cedric Kaze has been holding fort in the absence of the Tunisian.
