Ligi Kuu Bara: Yanga SC drop points, Singida Black Stars win

Reigning Ligi Kuu Bara Tanzania champions Young Africans (Yanga SC) hit their first obstacle in the 2025-26 campaign with a 0-0 draw at Mbeya City Council on Tuesday. In the earlier match from Tuesday, Singida Black Stars edged Mashujaa FC 1-0 to make it two wins from two league matches.

Singida Black Stars are top of the table for the time being courtesy of Kenyan forward Elvis Rupia’s goal just before halftime against Mashujaa. Rupia finished following a Clatous Chama corner kick to maintain Singida’s undefeated record through nine matches, including their victorious CECAFA Kagame Cup campaign as well as CAF Confederation Cup qualifying.

After four victories without conceding a goal through matches in CAF Champions League qualifying, the Tanzanian Community Shield and their league opener against Pamba Jiji, Yanga failed to break through against stubborn hosts Mbeya. With a defensive unit led by Tanzania national team defender Ibrahim Ame, Mbeya City posed a riddle that was too difficult for an uninspired Yanga effort to solve.

Yanga failed to produce a substantial threat in the final stretch of the match with Mbeya City looking like the more dangerous team, squandering an opportunity on the break deep into stoppage time that could have seen them snatch all three points.

Young Africans and coach Romain Folz will have an opportunity to regroup and replan during the upcoming FIFA window, giving Yanga over two weeks before their next match in the first leg from their final qualifying round CAF Champions League tie against Malawi’s Silver Strikers.

More midweek action will take place on Wednesday where Simba SC will look to move level with Singida when they host Namungo before Azam FC face JKT Tanzania away from home.
