Evidence Makgopa scored his first of the season on Tuesday
Goals from Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa led Orlando Pirates in Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership.
Burly striker Makgopa converted from the spot after a foul in the TS Galaxy penalty area to give the Bucs an advantage they would keep for the remainder of the match.
Pirates were well in control for most of the match but kept The Happy People in suspense at Orlando Stadium, who endured a bit of stress as Galaxy made a late push for an equalizer. However, their fears were finally put to rest in the final moments when substitute Tshegofatso Mabasa nodded in Deon Hotto’s cross to make it 2-0.
Last season’s runners-up are really finding their stride after a bit of a rough start under coach Abdesslam Ouaddou, who took over ahead of the 2025-26 campaign following the departure of highly regarded tactician Jose Riveiro. The Bucs are now unbeaten in nine matches across all competitions, including their successful defense of the MTN 8 cup title earlier this month.
And their solid form was on display in a potentially tricky duel against a talented Galaxy side in good form themselves, having won four of their last five league outings heading into Tuesday’s clash. Pirates dominated the first half even if they struggled to put away the visitors in the final stretch.
The Bucs return to action on Saturday in the Carling Knockout cup, where they will host Siwelele before an extended rest for the upcoming FIFA window.
