Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Igor Paixão formed a dynamic duo to crush Ajax in Olympique Marseille’s 4-0 UEFA Champions League victory on Tuesday.
Gabonese superstar Aubameyang assisted Paixão’s opening goal and also the third goal from Mason Greenwood as hosts Marseille stormed out to a 3-0 lead inside the opening half hour. Aubameyang produced a magical flick pass to send in the Brazilian to put Marseille ahead in the 6th minute.
After the dominant first half that saw Paixão record a brace, Aubameyang added one more death blow to the Dutch giants in the 52nd minute when he finished off a perfect counter-attack.
The 36-year-old has not lost a step with his return to European football turning into a success story after a strong season in Saudi Arabia. After a strong start in France’s Ligue 1 with three goals in five matches, the veteran forward has now announced his presence in Europe’s top club competition.
A perfect rotation option in a strong attack that also boasts Amine Gouiri along with Greenwood and Paixão, Aubameyang is playing his role perfectly.
Marseille, who also stunned Ligue 1 champions PSG over the weekend, will look for another victory at Metz when they return to Ligue 1 action on Saturday before the FIFA window.
