Champions League: Hakimi’s match-winning assist sends PSG past Barcelona

It looked like the most high-profile clash from Matchday 2 would end with a draw but Achraf Hakimi set up Goncalo Ramos to give Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) a late winner at the Nou Camp in their 2-1 UEFA Champions League victory over FC Barcelona on Wednesday.

Unmarked on the right wing, Hakimi received a pass and timed his pass perfectly to find substitute Ramos, who was wide open to finish past Barcelona backup goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in second half stoppage time.

The reigning European club champions showed their quality in an even match away from home, fighting back after Ferran Torres gave the Blaugrana an early lead inside twenty minutes. France youth international Senny Mayulu proceeded to equalize before halftime.

After the interval, PSG did well to neutralize the Barcelona attack before picking their moment to strike. Hakimi, who showcased his relentless work ethic and stamina down the right flank, escaped the attention of the Barcelona defense and put himself in a perfect position to undress a high Barcelona defensive line before setting up Ramos.

It is Hakimi’s first goal contribution of the 2025-26 season from eight matches. PSG will look to head into the upcoming international break with a victory at Lille on Sunday in their next French Ligue 1 match.
