Malawian international Charles Petro has extended his contract with Romanian top-flight league side, FC Botoșani.
The European team confirmed renewing the Flames’ star defender-cum midfielder’s deal for two more years.
“Petro has signed a new agreement with the group, valid for another two years. Born on February 8, 2001, Charles Petro arrived at FC Botoșani in the winter of 2023, from Sheriff Tiraspol,” the club’s statement read.
The former FCB Big Bullets player moved from Sheriff in Moldova to FC Botoșani on a three-year contract in 2023. He has since made close to 20 appearances for Liviu Ciobotariu’s team this season.
Botoșani have since wished the 25-year-old well following his call up to Malawi squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Equatorial Guinea on October 9.
“Good luck Charles Petro and as many achievements as possible at the National Team,” the statement reads.
Malawi will also face Sao Tome and Principe away on October 13 to conclude the academic assignments for Group H.
The Flames sit in fourth place with 10 points at par with Equatorial Guinea while Tunisia lead the table on 22 points followed by Namibia (15 points) and Liberia (11 points).
