Selim Amallah: World Cup veteran latest Moroccan to join UAE’s Khor Fakkan

UAE Pro League side Khor Fakkan SC added experience and quality to its midfield with the acquisition of Morocco international Selim Amallah this week.

The 28-year-old central midfielder’s arrival was confirmed by the club in the final stages of the UAE Pro League transfer window, adding to a substantial contingent of Moroccan players. Star attacker Tarik Tissoudali arrived last season to give the club a major boost in its push to avoid relegation and the Khor Fakkan management has continued to focus on Moroccan football as a source of talent.

Tissoudali’s career revival at the club saw him return to the Morocco national team with a call from head coach Walid Regragui for the Atlas Lions’ final 2026 World Cup qualifiers in October. Talented left back Akram Nakach, acquired from AS FAR Rabat in July, was also called into the Atlas Lions setup after previously representing the nation at the U-23 level.

Amallah, who played a role on the famous Morocco team that finished fourth at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, will now look to follow Tissoudali’s example after close to three seasons in Spain’s La Liga. The Belgian-born midfielder fell out of favor at Real Valladolid, who allowed Amallah to leave on a free transfer in pursuit of more playing time. He leaves after producing 5 goals and 2 assists in 52 appearances with Valladolid and during a loan spell for the 2023-24 season with Valencia.

He was an important contributor for Morocco at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with a goal and two assists in five matches before appearing in all seven matches for the Atlas Lions during their historic run in Qatar. Amallah has 4 goals and 2 assists with Morocco from 37 appearances since debuting for the national team in 2019.

Khor Fakkan return to action after the international break on October 18 with a UAE Pro League fixture at Ajman Club. The club are currently 11th on the Pro League table with four points from five matches.
