GoldStars returned from a disastrous CAF Champions League campaign where they suffered elimination against JS Kabylie of Algeria. The Ghana champions suffered a 2-0 loss in Accra before going down by 5-0 at the Hocine Ait Ahmed Stadium to complete a 7-0 defeat.
In a bid to redeem their image from the continental debacle, the Miners were bent on claiming all three points to appease both the traveling fans and those at home. Both sides failed to glitter in the first half of the game, managing to create a few scoring opportunities in the process.
The best chance fell to All Blacks striker Rudolf Mensah for a face-to-face with GoldStars keeper Emmanuel Kobi but he shockingly blew wide his chance in the 6th minute. The first department of the game ended goalless in an evenly matched contest.
GoldStars returned for the second half chasing all scoring opportunities and Michael Nkoah poked in a 47th minute corner kick past All Black Stars keeper Clement Aryee.
All Blacks shot their game a notch higher with good midfield control but created minimal scoring chances.
GoldStars took advantage of a quick break with Samuel Atta Kumi who came close to increasing the tally however his strike ricocheted off the cross bar into the hands All Blacks, keeper Clement Aryee on the 85th minute.
All Blacks mounted a final charge on Gold Stars but will be unlucky to find the equalizer, ending the encounter by 1-0 for the Ghana champions.
All Blacks thought they had equalised at the death but it was not meant to be.
Gold Stars ran away from Swedru with all three points.
