Zamalek coach Yannick Ferrera said that his team dominated the proceedings of their Nile Egyptian League match against Ghazl El Mahalla, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Zamalek were held to a 1-1 draw by Ghazl El Mahalla at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Round 10 of the competition. The result leaves Zamalek stuck on 18 points, missing the chance to reclaim top spot, which remains held by Al Masry due to goal difference. Meanwhile, Ghazl El Mahalla recorded their eighth draw of the campaign, the most by any team in the league so far.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Ferrera said:
“All the players performed well, and we controlled the match easily. But we conceded the equalizer due to two mistakes, which is frustrating. The bigger frustration is that we keep dropping points that the opponent doesn’t deserve. This has happened for the second match in a row, so we must be patient until we return to the path of victories.”
The Zamalek coach added:
“The three substitutions we made at once involved players who were playing together for the first time. They gave great effort throughout the match. We wanted to increase our attacking options, and the changes were made according to the flow of the game — some due to injury, others because of the physical effort put in by the players.”
Yannick Ferrera continued:
“We had good attacking movement, and several players participated in different positions without any problem. We reached the opponent’s goal many times but wasted our chances.”
The Belgian Zamalek coach concluded:
“Every match has its own scenario, but what they all have in common is that we take the lead and then concede goals for various reasons. Against Wadi Degla, the goals came from defensive errors; against Al Ahly, they came from individual mistakes; and today against Ghazl El Mahalla, the goal resulted from a wrong positioning by one of the players. You can’t ask a player to position himself incorrectly.”
