World Cup (Q): Tanzania will fight for ‘our nation’ against Zambia – Chikola

Tanzania national team forward Offen Chikola has revealed their determination to beat Zambia in the Group E qualifier of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at New Amaan Stadium on Wednesday.

The Taifa Stars will head into the matchday nine with a chance to qualify for the global tournament  that will jointly hosted by 16 cities in three North American countries, as they sit second in Group E with 10 points, eleven behind leaders Morocco, who became the first African nation to qualify during the last round of qualifiers.

Tanzania will fight for ‘our nation and our fans’

“I was very excited but first of all I thanked God because it is a great achievement in my football life to be on the national team,” Chikola told the Tanzania Football Federation media as quoted by Daily News. “As a player, when you perform well for your club, you are recognized in your country. This is my dream and I am very proud.

“This will be difficult because Zambia is a big country with a strong team. But we are preparing well under our coaches. We will fight for our nation and for our fans. I call on all Tanzanians to come out in large numbers on match day to support us. We rely on their energy, and together we can achieve victory.”

Tanzania midfielder Habibu Idd said:  “I thank the Almighty for this opportunity to represent Tanzania. My goal is to serve my nation with pride. We know the game won’t be easy, but we are preparing well to ensure we secure a positive result.”

He added: “This is a match we must win. I call upon all Tanzanians to come out, cheer for us and give us the motivation we need.”

Out of the seven round of matches, Tanzania have managed three wins, one draw and suffered three defeats. For leaders Morocco, they have won all their seven matches.
