Why Deo Kasozi returned as Kitara FC president

Deo Kasozi Akiiki officially returned to the helm of Kitara Football Club as President, just three months after stepping down from the same position.

The announcement was made on Friday during a press briefing at Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala, confirming his reinstatement to lead the Royals for another three-year term.

Kasozi replaces SPC Gilbert Nyaika, who had been serving in an interim capacity. According to club official Muchunguzi, the decision to recall Kasozi was made after assessing the club’s leadership needs going into the new season.

“Going into the season, SPC Nyaika wasn’t able to give the club the full attention it deserves. The club decided to look into the matter and requested Deo Kasozi to take up a new term as president. He served in the role before, and we are happy he gladly accepted the request,” Muchunguzi revealed.

Kitara announced appointment of Geoffrey Bamwenda

At the same briefing, Kitara also announced the appointment of Geoffrey Bamwenda as Vice President in charge of fans’ mobilisation — a key move aimed at strengthening the club’s community engagement.

Kasozi, who previously served as Kitara’s Chief Community Mobiliser before becoming President, emphasized that his return is driven by a deep commitment to continuity, stability, and progress.

“I thank the executive of Kitara Football Club for entrusting me with this office again. I willingly accepted the position and no one has forced me,” Kasozi said.

“The reason I have returned is to ensure the club is steered well, to manage the transition smoothly, and most importantly, to drive the club forward from a management perspective. I am here for the long term,” he added.

Kasozi’s renewed mandate signals Kitara’s intent to maintain strong leadership and build on the progress made in recent seasons both on and off the pitch.
