Egypt coach Hossam Hassan: “We must reach every World Cup”

Egypt coach Hossam Hassan expressed his gratitude after guiding the Pharaohs to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following their 3-0 victory over Djibouti in the African qualifiers.

The match, played at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Morocco, saw Egypt seal top spot in Group A with one match to spare, securing their fourth-ever appearance at football’s biggest stage.

Speaking to ON Sport, Hossam Hassan began by saying:

“Praise be to God. I thank the beautiful Egyptian fans of all affiliations and ages. Everyone deserves to be happy. It wasn’t right that Egypt had only reached the World Cup three times — many generations deserved that chance, and we hope to make up for it in the future.”

Egypt coach added:

“The new generation joining the national team will gain valuable experience and carry the responsibility for the future. No one succeeds alone — the officials, the fans, the Football Association, the technical staff, and the players all share the credit for this qualification. Without the support of the administration, there can be no success.”

Hossam Hassan continued:

“Everyone is doing their duty. Mahmoud El-Gohary led Egypt to the World Cup and won the Africa Cup of Nations, and Hassan Shehata won the continental title three times. Relying on capable Egyptian coaches always leads to achievements.”

Speaking about the President of Egypt, he said:

“His Excellency the President plays a role in every achievement and development happening in the country. We are living through a true renaissance. We have a great President who has shouldered enormous responsibilities — ones I believe no one else could have endured.”

Egypt coach concluded his remarks by saying:

“I hope to meet the President — it would be a great honor for me to speak with him and congratulate him personally. We are here to serve the Egyptian people. We must support one another. Egypt is a great country, and we should qualify for every World Cup — with or without us.”

With this qualification, Hossam Hassan becomes only the second Egyptian coach in history to guide the national team to the World Cup, following the legendary former Egypt coach Mahmoud El-Gohary.
