Gabon national team captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed their target is to win the remaining 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers starting with the fixture against Gambia at Kasarani Stadium on Friday.
The Panthers have pitched camp in Nairobi, Kenya, ahead of their matchday nine fixture. They picked four points from the previous qualifiers, a 4-0 victory against Seychelles and a 0-0 draw against African champions Ivory Coast.
The former Arsenal captain has now stressed the importance of winning the remaining matches saying they don’t want to be focused on what Ivory Coast are doing.
“We want to win those two games. That’s what’s important. We know Ivory Coast has a game at home, but we are not thinking about them, only ourselves — which I believe will help us,” said Aubameyang as quoted by Pulse Sports.
“Since the coach came, he’s created a kind of bubble around us. We’re together, we work together, and we feel like nothing can shake us.”
On his return to Kenya, having played against Harambee Stars in the same venue winning 2-1, he said: “I’m feeling very good, especially in this stadium. This is a beautiful stadium and we are ready and happy to be here and cannot wait to play.”
Speaking about striking partner Denis Bouanga, who is currently leading the scorers chart in the qualifiers with eight goals, one more than with Mohamed Salah of Egypt, he said: “Very happy and proud of him. He comes from my hometown as well, which is a good thing. I hope he can score more.”
Gabon are placed second in Group F with 19 points, one fewer than the African champions.
