The home side opted to defend from the onset and were very solid at the back. Nigeria coach Eric Chelle fielded Victor Osimhen and Tolu Arokodare, aiming to attack with the aerial threat of the two big forwards. Lesotho defended well for the majority of the first half, keeping Nigeria at bay.
The second half saw a much-improved performance from the Super Eagles. Center-back William Troost-Ekong broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after a handball by Motlomelo Mkwanazi.

Osimhen came closest to doubling the lead but was denied by the post. The visitors got their second through a fast break, well executed by Akor Adams. Hlompho Kalake pulled one back for Lesotho after dreadful goalkeeping from Stanley Nwabali seven minutes before time.
Nigeria are third with 14 points heading into the last round of qualifiers against Benin, while Lesotho are fifth with nine points.
