World Cup (Q): Benjamin fancies Namibia chances against Tunisia

Namibia national football team coach, Collin Benjamin, has challenged his Brave Warriors to aim for finishing the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for Africa on a high.

The coach had made the call as his side prepares to face Group H leaders and overwhelming favourites Tunisia on Monday. The Carthage Eagles secured their ticket to the World Cup finals. They are also nearly impossible to beat at home, a fact Benjamin acknowledged.

“We all know that Tunisia is a very good team. The players, technically and tactically, are really very good. It is going to be a very tough match for us, but equally, we have a good group of young player who are hungry. They want to finish this campaign on a high against a very good opponent,” the coach told the Namibia Football Association’s media.

Namibia, having lost 3-1 to Liberia last week, badly need a win to take their tally to 18 points and stand a chance of competing in the play-offs for the World Cup.

What Tunisia coach Trabelsi told his players

Tunisia coach Sami Trabelsi has since stressed the need to approach their final academic match with utmost seriousness, according to Lapresse news outlet.

“Moving away from our box and going on the offensive is the best way to limit the danger to any opponent,” he is quoted as saying.

The group’s other match will see Liberia facing Equatorial Guinea. The Lone Stars also looking at the possibility of sneaking through to the play-offs’ last chance. Malawi, too, have a chance to qualify for the World Cup via the play-off if they beat Sao Tome and Principe. However, the Flames do not have matters in their hands. They need Liberia and Equatorial Guinea to share the spoils and Tunisia to defeat the Brave Warriors.
