Hearts of Oak and Heart of Lions sold out a thrilling goalless draw in week five of the Ghana Premier League on Monday afternoon.
Both clubs entered the fray with no defeats from four matches of the 2025/26 campaign but Hearts of Oak have had an upper hand on Lions, having beaten them twice in pre-season.
The game began on a slow note with both clubs sizing each other up in the first thirty minutes of the half at the Accra Sports Stadium. The best chance fell to Heart of Lions Michael Ephson who missed by inches after a hard work by Kwadjo Obeng Junior in the 26th minute.
Hearts of Oak looked solid in defence with occasional link up play in midfield but very purposeless in the final third of the park, an action that continuously drew anger from the fans.
The first department of the game ended with Hearts of Oak enjoying a bigger share of ball possession but struggled to find the back of the net with strikers Frank Duku and Prince Kwabena Owusu looking lethargic.
Hearts of Oak, however, turned on the heat on the visitors in the first 15 minutes of the second half but wasted a flurry of chances with Martin Karikari and George Paaku from some fine movement in the Heart of Lions penalty area.
Heart of Lions put pressure on their hosts for a moment with a fast break but striker Chauncy Freeman’s strike went wide off the bar of Sheriff Shuaib in post for Hearts of Oak in the 67th minute. After a couple of substitutions by both clubs, neither side succeeded in imposing their superiority after full time with Hearts of Oak going on nine points and Heart of Lions increasing their points to 11 points after match day five.
