Gambia star Manneh awarded man of the match after Seychelles hat-trick

Gambia national team forward Abdoulie Manneh was named the Unique Group Match of the Match after his hat-trick propelled his side to a 7-0 mauling of Seychelles during their final qualifying fixture of the FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

In a match played at National Sports Complex Pitch 1 in Mauritius, Manneh led the way for the Scorpions after he grabbed a hat-trick in the 24th, 67th and 75th minutes respectively. However, it was Adama Sidibeh who opened the floodgate of goals with only two minutes played before Manneh made it 2-0.

Sidibe slotted home his second, and the electric Musa Barrow scored twice in quick succession in the 47th and 52nd minutes. Two simple finishes from Manneh then completed his treble as Gambia strolled to their fourth win of the campaign.

Manneh was making first competitive appearance

A statement from Gambia FA confirmed: “Abdoulie Manneh was awarded the Unique Group Match of the Match in our 7-0 obliteration of Seychelles on Tuesday. The Mjallby midfielder, making his first competitive appearance for the Scorpions, scored a stunning hat-trick and assisted two further goals for Musa Barrow and Adama Sidibeh.

“It’s the first hat-trick for a Gambian player in either AFCON or World Cup match. As part of the award, handed to him by Coach Johnathan McKinstry, the former Wallidan protege went home with the latest electronic equipment, courtesy of the Scorpions’ electronic partner Unique Group.”

The win saw Gambia reach 13 points from four wins, one draw and five defeats while Seychelles finished bottom of the six-team group without a point. The Island nation lost all 10 of their matches and conceded a whopping 53 goals in the process.
