Ghana to face Japan, South Korea in pre-World Cup friendly

Ghana will step up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup when they face Japan and South Korea in an international friendly in November.

Ghana will first play the Blue Samurai of Japan on November 14 at the Toyota Stadium in Aichi, Osaka before the four time African champions battle South Korea on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at the Seoul Stadium, in readiness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by Canada, USA and Mexico.

The Black Stars secured their fifth World Cup slot after pipping Comoros by 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium to collect 25 points from 10 matches.

Ghana beat South Korea last time both sides met

Ghana posted a dramatic 3-2 victory over South Korea the last time the two sides met before the Qatar 2022 World Cup, with a brace from Mohammed Kudus and a goal from Mohammed Salisu.

This Asian tour which is dubbed “the Challenge Kirin Cup”, forms part of a strategic plan to give the team top-level opposition as they prepare for the tournament in June next year.

Ghana is bent on making an impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup having exited at the Group stage in the 2022 edition in Qatar.
