Adama Coulibaly’s first half goal was enough for Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman to secure a 1-0 first leg victory away at Kenya Police on Friday in the CAF Champions League (CAFCL).
The young Malian attacker displayed his pace in the 20th minute, also producing a calm finish past Police goalkeeper Job Ochieng to give Hilal the edge heading into the second leg from their clash in the final round of qualifying.
Hosts Kenya Police struggled to create opportunities against the solid Hilal defense, which has posted clean sheets from all three of their CAF Champions League matches so far in the qualifying stages.
The two teams will meet again for the second leg next Friday. Hilal will host the match at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi, Libya. Last season’s quarterfinalists previously progressed to the final round of qualifying after struggling to a 1-0 aggregate victory over South Sudan’s Jamus FC.
