Colombe Sportive head coach Richard Towa said his charges are excited to face a team like MC Alger in the second qualifying round of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) on Sunday, October 19. The holders of Cameroon’s top flight Elite One come into the tie after stunning Senegal champions ASC Jaraaf 1-0 on aggregate.
Towa is counting on his squad to do well against MCA at home. “The squad is doing well. We can be happy because we don’t have any players in the infirmary. We are ready, prepared, and well-motivated for this match against Mouloudia Club from Algeria.”
The Cameroonian champions played a defensive approach against Jaraaf in the second leg but showed that they can’t be taken lightly after coming out victorious in the away encounter. Towa stated that they worked on their weaknesses ahead of the MCA clash. “We have played several friendly matches to sort out some details, especially in terms of finishing,” said Towa.
Towa warned his players not to expect an easy opponent, as MCA reached the Champions League quarterfinal last season. “We can be satisfied with the preparation while knowing that it won’t be an easy match, especially since we are facing a well-equipped team. We want to make our way. The players are highly motivated to face a team like that. I can assure you that the team is doing very well.”
The last Cameroonian side to reach the Champions League group stage was Coton Sport de Garoua in the 2022/23 season.
