CAFCL: Black Bulls seize first leg advantage against Rivers United

Moctar Diallo’s strike early in the second half secured a 1-0 first leg victory for Mozambican champions Black Bulls against Nigeria’s Rivers United from their CAF Champions League (CAFCL) second round clash on Saturday.

The Senegalese attacker finished over Rivers goalkeeper Osagie Onisodumeya in the 50th minute for the hosts at the Campo da ABB in Maputo, giving Black Bulls a slight edge before the second leg in Nigeria in a week’s time.

The visitors struggled to deal with the pitch conditions, leading to a hard fought but sloppy match that tilted in favor of the hosts. A strong defensive performance led by Mozambique national team goalkeeper Ernan Siluane also played to the advantage of Black Bulls, who used their experience to grind out a decent first leg result.

Next week, the two teams will meet at the Godswill Akpadio Stadium in Uyo where Rivers will need to find a breakthrough. The winner of the tie will advance to the group stage.
