Ghana Premier League: Samartex hold leaders Medeama in Tarkwa

Medeama SC left it very late to play out a a 1-1 draw in week six from the Ghana Premier League against Samartex on Saturday at the Tarkwa TnA Park.

The Mauve and Yellow came into the game with four wins from five games and were bent on consolidating their points on top of the league log.

Samartex on the other hand were looking for their first ever win at the Tarkwa TnA Park against Medeama but fluffed the chance to make that count.

Medeama exerted power and energy in the first thirty minutes of the first half with Samartex recovering occasionally from those incursions. In the latter part of the first half, Samartex came out of their shells and took the game to the home side with their efforts paying off in the 37th minute.

Awuah Dramani capitalized on a midfield lapse in the centre circle before unleashing a long ranger from that distance to beat a poorly positioned Felix Kyei in post for Medeama. The solitary strike separated the two sides heading into the break.

Prince Owusu came close to finding the equalizer early in the second half but his effort was deflected over the line for a corner kick.

The Mauve and Yellow picked up the pieces from the on began to push for the leveler however Samartex remained resolute in defence.

However Nana Kofi Babil pounced on a goalmouth mele to poke home Medeama’s equalizer in the 88th minute.

The two time FA Cup winners kept Samartex in their own half for most of the remaining minutes of the with countless pressure yet could not find the victory, increasing their points to 13 in six matches. Samartex are now on ten points in six matches.
