The Morocco U-20 national team made history by clinching their first-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup title, defeating tournament favorites Argentina 2–0 in a final held at the Julio Martínez Prádanos Stadium.
The hero of the night was Yassir Zabiri, Morocco’s rising star, who scored both goals in the first half to seal a monumental victory for the North African nation.
Zabiri opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a magnificent free-kick, curling the ball beautifully into the top right corner. He doubled Morocco’s lead in the 29th minute after a run down the right flank by Othmane Maâma, whose precise cross was met first-time by Zabiri for a finish that made it 2–0.
In the second half, Morocco’s defense stood firm to protect their clean sheet and complete one of the greatest underdog stories in youth football history.
The young Atlas Lions enjoyed a remarkable tournament run, topping the so-called “Group of Death” that featured Spain, Brazil, and Mexico, before eliminating South Korea, the United States, and France in the knockout rounds — and finally defeating the record six-time champions Argentina in the final.
With this historic achievement, Morocco became the first Arab nation and only the second African country ever to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup, following Ghana’s triumph over Brazil on penalties in the 2009 edition held in Egypt.
This triumph not only cements Morocco’s status as a rising powerhouse in world football but also serves as an inspiring milestone for the entire Arab and African continent.
