Mighty Wanderers FC moved to within four points of TNM Super League leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets after beating Blues Eagles 3-1 in Lilongwe on Wednesday, thanks to Blessings Mwalilino’s double.
Striker Muhammad Sulumba created the opening two goals as he picked a loose ball then sliced it past Eagles defence for Mwalilino to score in the 18th minute.
Some 10 minutes later, Sulumba created the second goal in a similar fashion for Mwalilino. The scorer then won a penalty after he was fouled for midfielder Isaac Kaliyati to score the third goal in the 34th minute.
Pius Saka scored the consolation for Eagles in the 77th minute when he made the most of a flick to chip the ball past Wanderers goalkeeper Dalitso Khungwa.
Coach Bob Mpinganjira’s men can reduce the gap to just a point as they have a game in hand while Eagles are currently in seventh position.
Wanderers are the only unbeaten team in the 16-member Super League but that run faces a serious threat from Bullets who they date on Sunday.
The leaders will come to Kamuzu Stadium for revenge after they lost to their rivals in the first round. Bullets are in peak form having won five straight matches the latest being a 3-0 beating of MAFCO FC.
