Nigeria senior women national team goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has assured that the Amazons of Benin Republic will not halt Super Falcons from qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The current defending WAFCON champions will be up against Benin in the first leg of the final qualifying round at the Stade de Kegue, Lome, Togo on Friday.
Speaking during the press conference, Nnadozie said they are mentally and physically ready to win the game.
“The spirit is very high. From the day we knew we were going to face Benin Republic, we’ve been communicating on how we can defeat them. We are mentally and physically prepared,” said the keeper as quoted by Complete Sports.
“The season is on in Europe and our players have been doing so well. So we are confident enough to go into the game and get the win.”
The Brighton goalkeeper added although the respect their opponents but they don’t care about the quality of their opponent. “To be honest, we don’t care about who we play, we respect all the players. They are a good team, but the only focus is on my team.”
Benin Republic’s Amazons defeated Sierra Leone 5-2 in the previous round to book a date with the ten time WAFCON champions.
The return leg is slated for next week Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, Nigeria
