Osimhen credits Galatasaray’s incredible mentality for Göztepe triumph

Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen has once again discussed the mentality of Galatasaray after the Turkish giants came from a goal down to secure a 3-1 Turkish Super Lig victory over Göztepe on Sunday.

The Istanbul side went behind just six minutes into the game through Efkan Bekiroğlu’s opener for visitors Goztepe. But a moment of brilliance from Osimhen in the 19th minute leveled the score before a red card issued to Goztepe and Cameroon national team defender Malcom Bokele set the stage for the hosts to surge to victory.

Speaking after the game, Osimhen assessed the team’s latest success which helped them to pick their ninth victory of the campaign.

‘I want to thank our fans’

“First, I want to congratulate the team. We were truly incredible mentally. Even down 1-0, the entire team was giving everything they had to win. I want to thank our fans. Without them, it would have been impossible to compete like this and be so motivated,” Osimhen told Galatasaray website.

“Thanks to them, we’re able to bring smiles to their faces, and that means a lot to us. When you look at it this way, we’ve done our job. The team deserves a huge congratulations. We want to keep improving in the upcoming matches.”

On his thoughts after coach Okan Buruk reached 100th win in his 120th match, he said: “He absolutely deserves it. He’s not only a great coach, but also a great person. He’s one of the best people I know. From a humanitarian perspective, I’m incredibly happy with all his achievements. We feel the same way as a team.

“As players, we’re ready to give our all for him. We’re very happy to be working with him. I think he’s the best coach in Türkiye. He continues to write his story in Europe. He continues to achieve great success. We’re confident we’ll achieve great things with him. We’re very happy to be with him.”

This 3-1 victory means the Istanbul giants remain top of the league table with 28 points, with the Super Eagles marksman currently having six goals in nine games across all competitions to his name this season.
