Casablanca Derby: Pyrotechnics disrupt draw between Raja and Wydad

Wednesday’s Casablanca Derby between rivals Wydad Athletic Club and Raja Club Athletic ended in a scoreless draw that featured numerous disruptions from Morocco’s top flight Botola Pro.

Opportunities came at a premium as neither team could generate momentum due to lengthy delays caused by pyrotechnics and flares being set off by the supporters, which lead to almost thirty minutes of stoppage time between both halves.

A positive start for RCA failed to result in an early goal before WAC responded with an increased effort. Shortly before the first break due to smoke from the flares, Abdelghafour Lamirat fired over for WAC after being set up by a clever pass from Stephane Aziz Ki.

Once the first long delay arrived after the half hour mark as WAC supporters shot off flares, however, the two rivals cancelled each other out for most of the match with only one shot on target from each team. RCA moved level with Maghreb Fez at the top of the table on twelve points each.

WAC are level with AS FAR Rabat in second place on eleven points. Earlier on Wednesday, two first half goals from captain Mohamed Hrimat set up a 3-0 victory for AS FAR against Hassania Agadir.

On Thursday, Throne Cup champions Olympique de Safi will face FUS Rabat in the only match from the Botola Pro to kick off four consecutive days of matches from the Moroccan top flight.
