After exiting the CAF Champions League, Malawi champions Silver Strikers moved closer to atonement for their continental misery on Saturday by advancing to the final of Malawi’s FDH Cup.
The Lilongwe giants exited the Champions League after losing 2-0 to Young Africans SC in Dar es Salaam on October 25, to fall short 2-1 on aggregate over two legs of the second preliminary round.
With the Champions League assignment done, Peter Mgangira’s side turned to the domestic FDH Cup semi final fixture. And it could not have come any bigger than a meeting with Lilongwe arch rivals Civil Service United.
The rivals pushed each other to the limit until in the last 10 minutes when striker Andrew Joseph, scorer in the 1-0 upset of Yanga in the preliminary round first leg, found the target. Joseph scored in the 88th minute for Strikers to edge Civil 1-0 and book a place in the final.

Mgangira’s team has now reached the final for the second time this season, their earlier attempt at winning silverware ending in an Airtel Top 8 defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
Strikers now await in the final the winner of another semifinal clash between Bullets and holders Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Sunday.
