Asante Kotoko got off the block in grand style in their week eight Ghana Premier League fixture against Karela United after their awful continental campaign where they suffered a 6-1 aggregate loss against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.
The two time African champions’ attacking line was written off ahead of Karela clash following the sale of top striker, Albert Amoah to Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi just hours after losing to WAC in the CAF Confederations.
The record Ghana Premier League holders however blew away Karela United by 4-2 at the Baba Yara Stadium, a result that re-energized the supporters’ interest on Sunday.
Midfielder, Seth Kwadwo registered his first goal for the club in their thumping win over Karela spoke in a post-match interview after he was adjudged the best player of the game.
“We can assure you [that] we have been practicing goal scoring each day at the training ground and I think it manifested in today’s game [against Karela United],” Seth Kwadwo said in a post-match press conference.
“We [Kotoko] losing Albert Amoah is sometimes a big blow but we as players we also have to show our quality in the absence of Albert [Amoah] and you could see today we came up and we scored.”
Asante Kotoko have played five matches, collecting 11 points in the process with three outstanding matches to clear. Their next fixture is against sworn rivals, Hearts of Oak in a week five outstanding fixture.
