Franculino saves point for Midtjylland in Superliga draw with Aarhus

Danish Superliga top scorer Franculino kept FC Midtjylland within range of leaders AGF Aarhus on Monday with a late equalizer to preserve a 1-1 draw.

The Guinea-Bissau national team striker produced a true poacher’s finish in the 81st minute when the Aarhus defense failed to clear a cross from substitute Paulinho. Franculino needed little time to turn and strike once he pounced on the loose ball, giving him 13 goals from 13 Superliga matches so far this season.

He has now scored in his last six matches for last season’s Superliga runners-up, producing a remarkable 8 goals during this stretch to take a commanding lead on the Superliga top scorer list. FCM are now unbeaten in their last thirteen matches including Superliga and UEFA Conference League games, highlighted by a 3-2 victory away at English Premier League side Nottingham Forest in the Europa League.

The club remain two points back of Aarhus, surprise leaders after finishing 6th place last season. Despite the difficulty of balancing continental and domestic duties, FCM remain in a good position and Franculino is at the center of by far the Danish top flight’s best attack, which has 36 goals from their 14 league matches.

Now the focus turns back to the Europa League, where FCM will host Celtic FC of Scotland. They are currently at the top of the league phase table with a perfect record of 9 points from 3 matches.
