Linafoot: AS Vita Club and Lupopo maintain strong starts

FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo and AS Vita Club currently sit at the top of the two groups that compose DR Congo’s top flight Linafoot following victories on Wednesday.

In a local Kinshasa derby, VClub triumphed with a commanding 3-1 victory over Renaissance du Congo to maintain their position at the top of their Kinshasa-based group. Mardochée Bofoya and Beyuku Munsi scored in the first half to give Les Dauphins Noirs four victories from their first five matches with a record of eleven goals scored and only one conceded.

Also of note in the Kinshasa group, DC Motema Pembe and AS Maniema Union played to a 1-1 draw, leaving two Congolese powerhouses behind the pace in the group. Maniema now have only one goal from three matches with three points while DCMP have seven points from four matches in fifth place.

In the fiercely contested Lubumbashi group, the pace setters are AS Malole and Wednesday’s winners Lupopo. Michael Kimputu converted a penalty kick in second half stoppage time to confirm a tight 2-1 victory for Lupopo over top flight newcomers FC Tshikas, who nearly earned a surprise result but fell short in the end.

Action will continue throughout the few days into the weekend. Notably, TP Mazembe will attempt to recover from a poor start on Friday against Sanga Balende before Lupopo, VClub and AS Maniema Union return to action on Saturday.
